The Esther and Jereline Medical Center is the dream of the Liberian philanthropist, Mr. Jeremiah Kpan Koung. He comes from a humble beginning and rose to the lamplight of providing free health care for the people of Liberia through the construction of the Esther and Jereline Medical Center in Nimba County.
Liberia emerged from 14 years of civil unrest, and many of its industries like health and education, among others, were destroyed. With health care being one of the major priorities for a community whose inhabitants are subsistence farmers living in adjust poverty, he prioritized health care as his first paramount obligation to his electorates and others. Gompa City with 65,000 plus inhabitants during this time needed additional health care facility to respond to the many health-related issues arising from the community and its surroundings.
Today, the Esther and Jereline Medical Center provides affordable health care for the people of North Central Liberia and its surroundings. This modern 125-bed health care facility is located at Gompa, LPMC-Bye Pass Community, Nimba County, and is commonly known as the E&J Medical Center.
The hospital was dedicated by the former Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Amb. Joseph Nyuma Boakai, on July 1, 2016, and is operating as one of the best Referral Hospitals in Liberia.
